Labor Day, etc.

Last year, I enjoyed my Labor Day in Park City attending their annual Miners Day festivities. This year, I decided to take my parents up.

We parked at Richardson's Flat and took the shuttle into Park City, then made our way to Main Street. They had a flyover by a WWII plane before the parade.

Then they had their parade. I don't love parades per se, but I like the festive atmosphere. How else do you observe Labor Day without it being just like an ordinary Saturday? Labor Day parades were common in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Park City's parade was a typical community parade, with politicians, local businesses, etc.

Then we went to the Park City Library for their book sale. Last year, I was delighted when I found cultural history books about turkeys and bald eagles, and it was one of my most cherished Labor Day memories. (I read the turkey book last Thanksgivingtime, but I still haven't gotten to the bald eagle book.) But I didn't buy any books this year. My to-be-read pile is already too big.

That was all we did in Park City. My mom doesn't like walking, and my dad doesn't like restaurants, so we made our way back to the park-and-ride lot and came home. My parents were underwhelmed with the festivities.

Anyway, Labor Day seems like it was way longer ago than just a week!

This week was the release of four more episodes of Wednesday. As many of you know, I have long had an affinity for terrible 1960s sitcoms, which includes the original Addams Family series. The silly, family-friendly nature of the show aligns with my vibe. Unfortunately, that series was overly gimmicky and formulaic, and it could have been executed so much better. Wednesday is the most engaging, high-quality adaptation of the Addams Family, though I'm not a fan of the overly dark and violent aspects. It definitely has the highest body count of any incarnation. Of course, as a fan of Lady Gaga, I'm glad she has a small part in the show, and I'm glad she released a new song in connection with Enid's dance scene. But I can only justify watching it once I've finished my other tasks for the day, and I only watch with foreign-language subtitles so I feel like I'm kind of learning something.

Anyway, last year they released a Wednesday-themed cereal, and I left a comment on the internet saying they could release an Enid-themed cereal.

And lo and behold, there is an Enid cereal this year! Unfortunately, it's a bland "confetti cake" flavor, instead of the fruity flavors I suggested, which would have been better.

Also, on Wednesday I went to have my emissions done, and on my way home I went to Wendy's for their Meal of Misfortune. (I don't eat at Wendy's often because they don't have many seasonal items.) It had "rest in ten-piece" nuggets, mystery sauce, and a raven's blood Frosty. I just think this kind of tie-in is funny. (If you're concerned about why I'm eating a nonseasonal treat, we're close enough to the Halloween season, even though it's not quite here, that I could justify having the Frosty the same day they dropped new episodes.)
But I think of cereal and fast-food tie-ins as something for kids, and Wednesday is not a kid show. I suppose that's why Burger King went with the animated movie last year (when I reviewed their Morticia shake).

A year or two ago, I had an onion that was going bad, so I put it in the garden. It appears that it is finally going to seed! I don't know if I'll do anything with the seeds, but it's been fun to see the life cycle of an onion.

My mom pulled this squash from her garden, and the skin looks like eggnog. How cool would it be to have an eggnog plant?

I ran four nights this week, but not the nights I went to the temple and went to a wedding reception. Yesterday (Saturday), I went to the Summerwood Trailhead. I don't often going to those trails, because you can either go on the new Bonneville Shoreline Trail, which is flat and boring, or you can go another trail that is frustratingly steep. I heard there was a new trail there, so I went to check it out. It was called the Sunset Trail, and I really enjoyed it, though it wouldn't be good on a hot, sunny day.

Since I was already there, I continued my run on the BST. But it's a long, repetitive journey before you hit the next trail intersection (I didn't get there last night, though I did it three years ago). At least it was easy! And it was pretty, even though it's less interesting than other trails. I ended up going just under nine miles.

I was surprised to see a few fireweed flowers still intact, even though they've mostly become fluffy

I love seeing changing maple leaves!

September is my favorite month of the year, though I do like late September better than early September. What a wonderful time!
